How it all started

I am an avid viewer of HGTV’s House Hunters! I especially love House Hunters International and Mexico Life. There something fascinating about watching people uproot their lives and everything they know to start a new life abroad. My husband and I started warming to the idea of an expat retirement south of the border! We currently live in Atlanta, GA and have been here for the past 8 years. Our house is a comtemporary styled structure in the East Atlanta area of Edgewood. We purchased the house in a transistional neighborhood that has since become a real estate hot spot! Selling this home should enable us to purchase our retirement home outright. We both love the ocean! We actually met in the Outer Banks of North Carolina! There’s nothing more relaxing than lazing on the beach, soaking in the sun, and listening to the waves. Anywhere with proximity to water in the U.S. is out of the question as far as cost is concerned and Florida is cancelled due to hurricane threat and the political environment. The other criteron for our potential location was, low cost of living, LGBTQ friend, easy to get to from a transportation standpoint, and the right balance between access to activities and peace and quiet when we want that! Some preliminary research led us to the conclusion that we should seriously start the planning process of a move to Mexico. We started by developing a short list of places to visit. Clearly you can’t know if you want to live somewhere without checking it out first! We set our sights on Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baja_California_Sur We checked out the location on the map and quickly realized how ignorant we were about Mexico! As it was early 2022 and we were just coming out of the 2+ year ordeal of the Covid pandemic, we were eager to take the trip. We decided to book an all excusive resort based on the recommendation of a close friend. Why a resort? Well, our rationale was as the trip was going to be expensive and we knew nothing about the area we felt it was best to not have to worry about meats, cocktails, etc. I’ll tell more about this experience later!
