So after weeks of waiting for the seller of the Fluvial property to respond to our offer, and consulting with David, or agent at Tropicasa Realty, we concluded that the seller was stalling for time. I previously mentioned that real estate negotiations in Mexico are nothing like the U.S. The market in Mexico is hot and sellers have the luxury of holding tight because they know someone will give them what they’re asking for. What do we do now? We came to the conclusion that we needed to shift our focus to making decisions about our Atlanta home. We decided it would make more sense to look at what we needed to do to prepare our home for listing and to get that process underway. After consulting with our Atlanta agent, we were astonished by the valuation and listing price he was recommending! If we were able to get a quick sale, we would have the cash in hand to strengthen our buying position for a PV property. It would also be easier to shop as we’d know precisely what we had to work with. We also concluded that we did not wanted to list the house occupied as a vacant property would give us the ability to stage and minimize disruption (we both work from home). As my job’s headquarters is in Macon, GA (85 miles south of Atlanta). We tasked our realtor with looking for a rental property there so on the rare occasion that I needed to go to the office, I would have zero commute! Macon is also cheaper from a rental standpoint. Of course the downside to all of this is we would be looking at moving twice! Our hope was that we would be able to list in early November. We also thought it would be a good idea to consult with other realtors to see if the valuation that our agent was proposing was realistic. The saga continues!
