After spending a relaxing time at the beach, we had the opportunity to head back into town to explore. The pictures that you see online and in print of Santorini, put it in its best light. The reality is that with 3 other cruse ships in port, it’s incredibly crowded! Funelling through narrow streets that are crowded with tourists is not enjoyable! If I had it to do over again, I would go back off season to allow more time to explore in a liesurely manner. The heat was also something to contend with! Thankfully, our shore excursion included the cable car trip back down to the port so we didn’t have to witness the infamous Santorini donkeys. This practice is becoming more and more maligned and I think it’s just a matter of time before it’s done away with altogether. Overall, just the experience of being in a picturesque and historic environment is worth the aggravation of doing so with thousands of other sailors!
