We had the pleasure of hosting my husband’s Mom from mid-February until the end of April. Her lengthy stay was necessitated by renovations taking place in the downstairs portion of her home in Norwalk, Connecticut to allow her granddaughter to move in with her family and help with her care. She celebrated her 95th birthday on April 7th. Preparing our home for her stay required creativity as Mildred is not mobile. She requires a wheelchair to move around and recently started hospice care. We able install a handrail in our powder room and obtained other aids to help her with moving around. We were able to transfer her hospice care to Savannah. It was impressive how efficient everything was and Mildred was able to receive care 5 days a week from a nurses aide and a caregiver recommended by a local friend was able to come on Saturday and Sunday. She able to get out for dinners – her favorite activity! She also enjoyed the warm local climate. She became our new normal and she got comfortable being here and took comfort in the knowledge that we would male sure all of her needs were taken care of. Admittedly, her departure left a void.
