One of our primary reasons for moving to Savannah Georgia was the proximity to area beaches. We love the ocean! We are a 50 minute drive to Tybee Island, GA, an hour and fifteen minutes to St. Simons Island, Ga, and hour and 20 minutes to Jekyll Island, GA and 2 hours away from Charleston, SC. For the past two consecutive weekends, we went to Tybee Island to get our beach on! Savannah can be oppresively hot during the Summer and this year has been no exception. With temperatures ranging in the high 90s and head indices exceeding 100, the beach can be a welcome respite. We have found late afternoon to be the sweet spot. Our first weekend we went to South Beach instead of our usual North Beahc destination and found it to be way too crowded (it looked like Coney Island!). Parking wasn’t as prevalent either. Our second weekend, we went back to North Beach. This past Saturday we went around 2 and found the crowds were thinning and the sun wasn’t as oppressive. We also discovered a new dining spot. We were attempting to have dinner at our usual Tybee Island spot, AJ’s Dockside http://ajsdocksidetybee.com/ which features a stunning water view only to learn that they were temporarily closed due to a change of ownership and remodeling – Bummer! Lucky for us, a local recommended we try https://www.facebook.com/backriverbrewery We were not disappointed! I had a marinated grilled chicken breast with bacon and avacado and my husband Ken has smoked brisket quesadillas that were to die for! Summer is off to a great start!
